DIVA 137 – Movimento (self-released)

English:CD-review
  Van Muylem    21 mei 2025

Brussels punk-/ nineties grungerock project Diva 137 just released their first album: Movimento. They work as a trio: Yasmine (vocals), Fed (guitar) and Fix (drums & synths, you might know him from A Slice Of Life). I listened to it before going for the review as I saw some bad referrals, but the global sound got me hooked (mix between Betty Goes Green and Hole) and Yasmine has a nice voice!

Seattle Ashes burst from the start with a taste of Hole (vocals are Courtney Love-minded) and Betty Goes Green (the music). I adore what Yasmine does with her voice whilst the guitar play and drums are more then ok. I feel like this one could be single material.

Little Mills sounds like an angry track, with lots of shouting and a cool bass guitar. I feel like a connection with Nirvana (guitar play, lyrics, vocals).

Lal Rey starts slowly, but builds up the tension with at first a pretty melodic side and towards the end more aggression and more raging! I feel this will be a banger on stage!

Bang is a slow one with a dark undertone. I can feel a bit of a tension. There’s also a kind of Trick or Treat moment. It’s also nice to hear her sing in such a clear and nice way ( like, wow: she really has a great voice)!

Barely mixes a strange sounding bass with punk elements, some grunge and Yasmine singing with an attitude.

1’37 is not a John Cale cover but a whirlwind: exploding, going slower, exploding … A real punk minded song and thus a real short one.

Hawaii Crash sounds a bit sweeter, but still rocks and his it’s ups and downs (in the tempo). Sometimes I get indeed a Hawaii feeling here. Towards the end we get the crash part and the tempo goes up, together with the screams.

Boundaries Baby starts with a great drum sound and dito guitar play. Yasmine’s voice is a bit under her usual loudness in the start, but she’s only getting her voice warmed up. I feel they didn’t knew where to go to: Hole or No Doubt.

Bodies Through The Window starts slowly, with a mysterious touch. Slowly building up the sound and the tension, shifting between passion, pathos and aggression.

Well one thing is sure: Yasmine has a great voice and do a lot of things with it! Can’t wait to see them on stage (my agenda is sadly filled up for the coming months, but still). The band around here sounds nice and I can hear the chemistry between them. So nothing but good words about this one! This means you know who to book (in stead of 10.000 times the same band)!
