Cloé du Trèfle - La lueur (Freaksville)

It’s always nice to see that the artist you follow since the 90’s is still active and keeps on changing and uses the modern tools, sounds … Cloé played already all over the world and doesn’t have to prove herself anymore.

La lueur starts with mysterious sounds, slowly building up the tension and the tempo (adding more and more instruments/sound). The sounds like a spoken word New Wave track from the 80’s (with a modern touch). I never wrote it like this but it feels more and more like as if Anne Clark suddenly speaks French and I think that is the best compliment you can give! On top there is the excellent piano sound and the strings.

Ton souffle has a bit of a higher tempo, returns to a more singing pose, with on top excellent electronics and a poetic range if we talk about the lyrics. The song really gets a high towards the end: a magical ending!

L'élan puts the electronical part upfront, next to a twingling piano sound. Don’t expect any vocals, but yet a club orientated track!

Le torrent sorore is a more story telling track with a dramatic feel and pumping beats. At the end I’m expecting a Mexican Wave.

Sous ta peau is the French version of Kraftwerk (retro sound included). The chorus is catchy and the beats are pumping it all up whilst the synth brings us back to the 80’s and minimal wave slices.

La frontière invisible elevates the singing part whilst the music embraces the 80’s with it New Wave feel. I think some DJ’s mike like and might use this one!

Minuit midi is instrumental track that mixes minimal wave with more dancefloor orientated beats and tempo. The songs feels like a happy one.

Bruxelles Lausanne might have been a Telex track (part of Tour de France) and is a story telling track: telling the story of a day / of a day trip.

Virage starts with fingers playing over a piano, setting the tone, afterwards we get the beats and the tempo for the rest of this interesting instrumental.

Electrons libres has already been launched as a single and showed us it’s an excellent track (if not the best on this album). The beats feel right, the lyrics too, just as the vocals. It’s a song that builds up slowly and get you to a high without even noticing it’s coming.

Paradoxes is a slower one, with a spooky touch but also a floating and airy minimal wave touch. Or how to create a song around just one word (a little wink towards Pas De Deux)!

La plongée mixes minimal wave with percussions, slowly getting into a hypnotic sound but also a bit of a floating feel. I thing I hear in the end the sound of a beating heart of a baby (till residing inside).

Well : I never expected Cloé to turn into a New Wave artist, hence: she did it with brio! I can drop names like Anne Clark, Kraftwerk, Telex, Pas De Deux … You know you are in good company!
