Johan Hellqvist and Emma Bergstedt are Anadyr. Together they create dark electronic music. Their music could be described as a mixture of dreamy/atmospheric electronics and at times even touching the veins of acts such as Massive Attack and Hooverphonic.
Test Of Time sounds a bit dark, with a cool guitar sound and spooky electronical effects. I also hear a siren singing in the background. I imagine that this song could be used in one of the darkest Batman movies, at least that’s how I feel this song.
Where It All Begun has a mid-tempo, some sharp words that tell you that the title is not something about melancholia. I adore the guitar play (when it’s on, doesn’t happen much during this song) whilst the electronical part comes close to EBM.
Crux Simplex shows off the great vocal capacities: Emma really does a great job using it in all kind of lows’ and high’s. The electronical part is once again great. I like the tempo!
Wait For Me is a slow one with dreampop moments and an angelic voice. This one could have been a Massive Attack track (said in a positive way)
Bearing The Tension plays a bit with the vocals (repeating them to built up the tension). It’s an eclectic track.
I take It Back is a soft but very emotional track. Enjoy Emma’s beautiful voice.
First Of All Pleasures: our duo continues to explore the dark, rhythmic and haunting. Stretching the fine lines between electronic, triphop and adding an own unique touch to it all with Emma Bergstedts brilliant vocals on top of it all. This one has been climbing on my personal playlist. It’s the best track on this album!
There Is No You There Is No I is another emotional track where we also hear how great Emma’s voice can sound like. It’s a mix of Triphop and a scary Halloween feeling. It’s clearly a haunting track.
Only Love is a piano driven ballad with Emma’s angelic voice on top. This song will give you goosebumps! It’s a very stripped down song, almost naked and thus making it very fragile and beautiful. Can’t imagine a better end for this great album!
I’m happy I got poked to review this one as I missed the launch a bit, due to having so much to do (and running behind with 3000 unread mails with propositions for the news section, reviews, gig announcements etc). This album is a beauty! Give Anadyr a chance and discover for yourself!
