Seventh Harmonic are an all-female neoclassical ensemble creating sensual euphoric epics which draw on a great diversity of influences. The music blends an intoxicating kaleidoscope of rhythmic intensity and soaring vocals with ethno-symphonic overtures, defying categorisation yet always beating with a dark romantic heart.
I know this band since their first gig in Belgium, been following them since then and became friends with Caroline Jago aka the beating heart of Seventh Harmonic and I’m delighted tob e able to finally review new tracks (after 13 years of silence). What makes it extra special is that Caroline found amazing people to join her on this new trip, none less but: Annmari Thim Hermansson (Arcana) and Monica Richards (Faith & The Muse) on vocals.
Cave of Shadows seamlessly blends the classic Seventh Harmonic sound with the grandeur of Dead Can Dance, elevated by Annmari’s beautiful vocals. The electronic elements enhance the medieval atmosphere in a compelling and tasteful way, resulting in a cohesive and immersive listening experience. This is a standout track.
Consequor introduces the distinctive touch of Monica Richards, whose voice and artistic influences are immediately recognizable. It is a slower composition, imbued with a rich, mythical aura.
Nocturne feels like a natural continuation of the previous track, yet it distinguishes itself through more intricate sound design, particularly in its electronics and percussion. The song clearly feels like the part two of the previous song.
Finis Dierum closes this brief release with Annmari returning on vocals. Her influences are clearly present, creating a perfect balance of styles. It stands out as the strongest track of the four, filled with palpable pathos and emotional depth. The feelings conveyed through both the lyrics and the music are profound, resulting in something truly magical and evocative.
Though consisting of only four tracks, this release is crafted with exceptional artistry. It leaves a lasting impression, promises more to come, and creates a strong desire for future work. The overall result is nothing short of delightful, impressive, and deeply satisfying.
