German alternative metal force CONSVMER. return with their new album "Abgrund", out via Out Of Line Music. "Abgrund" is CONSVMER.'s third full-length and their most ambitious record to date. It's now available on all streaming platforms as well as on CD and vinyl.
For the band, this is more than a new chapter. Abgrund is the first album to feature new vocalist Jacques Gronert, and the record the band have been building towards: heavier, denser, and more creative than anything in their catalogue. Lyrically, it explores the final stages - of addiction, of identity, of social collapse - tracing how humanity's darkest impulses drag both individuals and societies toward the edge. The title track opens the record on collective breakdown; "Gier" tears into systemic greed; "Willenlos" descends into dissociation and the erasure of self; closer "Gottverlassen" leaves the listener exactly where the title suggests.
Musically, Abgrund sees CONSVMER. break their own structures apart. Unpredictable shifts and deliberately unsettling sounds run throughout the album, emerging between riffs, building tension, and making the breakdowns hit harder for it. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered almost entirely by the band themselves, a first for CONSVMER., and a decisive one. Bassist Fabian Schuhmacher, formerly front-of-house engineer for Paleface Swiss, oversaw the sonic vision: brutal, powerful, and unmistakably its own, not a polished, generic production, but a sound with edge, force, and character.
The two features serve the record's atmosphere precisely: Acranius and DOGBITE each bring a distinct kind of impact, hitting with full force exactly where they need to, making Abgrund even more unpredictable, extreme, and versatile.
