Dream State - Still Dreaming (Epitaph)

I discovered this female fronted rock / metal band from Wales by the bias of the excellent pictures taken by Dennis De Loor (check out our Facebook page). We spoke a bit about how good the gig was. The more he told me, the more I got interested. I decide to review their latest album (out in 2024, i know, but they deserve our coverage as we missed it). So, here we go:

The album starts with an intro (simply called Introduction): slowly building up the tension and bursting out with the first real song!

Still Dreaming is not only the real opening track but also the title track. I hear good and strong vocals, nice guitar play and the perfect drummer in action! The song has something sweet, but also burst out because of the energetic flow! If I have to drop some names to give you an idea of what i hear (of influences): DeathbyRomy, Coal Chamber, Spoil Engine (the first version), The Unguided (the female fronted version) and Skarlett Riott.

Chin Up Princess mixes metal with breakbeat: is all fired up and sounds really good! The Dream minded ending is cool.

Calling Out sounds a bit softer in the beginning, mixes rock/metal with a more electronic minded sound. The screams shows she has a real good voice! Once again the drummer did a great job (absolutely need to mention it).

Anxious State Of Mind rocks nicely, with a sweet touch and giving us (despite the title) some hope. Be ready to heabang in between and just listen to her long, loud and hard scream!

Set Free is a strange song as at first I was thinking i was listening to a track from some other artist: sounds more like something you would play in a fancy restaurant as it's more laid back and into fancy electronics (think about lounge music).

Until out of the blue (and almost halfway the song) I hear suddenly guitars and harsh vocals. It's been ages since somebody surprised me this way. But NO: it's already the next and last track: Day Seeker (and no it's not a cover from The Unguided). It's a strong ending for a good album!

I wish I saw them on stage, but to compensate you can watch the pictures taken by our photographer Dennis De Loor! This is clearly a must see and must follow up band! Please ping me when you play again in Belgium!
