Thundermother, Cobra Spell & Vulvarine (De Casino, St-Niklaas 9/2/2025)

It’s the first time is see all of these bands on stage & first time at De Casino (seems to become more and more popular). I interviewed and review Thundermother in the past and was really eager to see them on stage, same goes for the 2 other bands (Cobra Spell + Vulvarine)! Nothing but women on stage and pure rock’n roll! Let’s roll!

First some info about De Casino: there's a great arking lot at the station (easy acess and the price to pay is not so high, a few euro's), the room itself looks like the rennovated De Vooruit in Ghent (but a bit smaller). The organisation is nice and warm. No seats (so no mix like in Het Depot, Leuven).

Vulvarine just launched a new track and I can confirm it’s a good one (Fool). Hailing from Vienna, Austria, the band has been making an unmistakable statement for powerful women in rock music since 2019, breaking into the international live scene following their dynamic debut full-length, Unleashed (2020). Newly signed with premium rock and metal label Napalm Records.

To be honest: I only know them because of this gig and they just launched new material, but what I heard was promising a lot of good stuff! Well: they rock from the start, all have different but yet great looks and work hard to get the audience into their music. I will keep in mind the second song of their set, I think it's called Are We gonna Have A Good Time? Well: it's not a question mark, but a fact (Allright Now!)! Suzy Q is a beast on stage and goes every now and then into the crowd. Fool is clearly already known by the fans. One totally unexpected New Wave cover from the 80’s surprised me: Modern talking (Cheri Cheri Lady). I adore this powered up version, just as the sing-a-long session. Suzi Q is calling up all the girls on stage, but she only finds 2 of them (hence, I think Cobra Spell is the reason why I only see man around me). They close their set with an energetic version of Rock Bottom. Closing with a banger!

Cobra Spell

Founded in 2019 by Sonia Anubis, COBRA SPELL‘s current lineup is completed by Kristina Vega on vocals, Twitch streamer Noelle dos Anjos on guitar, Hale Naphtha on drums and Roxy Herrera on bass. Together, they have already toured with numerous established bands such as ROSS THE BOSS, ENFORCER and EVIL INVADERS, and released two globally praised EPs, Love Venom (2020) and Anthems Of The Night (2022). With these aces under their studded leather belts, COBRA SPELL are gearing up to introduce their first full-length, aiming for nothing less than 80s rock ‘n’ roll world domination.

Pretty fast the temperature became too hot and I could feel some people with way too high testosterone. It was a wild, hot and a very  sexy show. Our warriors from hell are in a good shape. And yes our man from The Evil Invaders is also on stage with his guitar! For the fans t's clearly the moment to show off they can sing and scream all the words from first to last song all along. They even bow down when asked, clap their hands, move, headbang, ... I know why there are so many man who bought a ticket and for sure for the long legged guitar player who got a lot of man heating up because of her stage presence. They end a perfect set with Addicted to the Night.

Here are the highlights (or call it simply th setlist):

The Devis Inside of Me

Thundermother

The Swedisch quartet is reborn, revitalised and ready to rock ‘n’ roll, Thundermother are back with a deafening bang. It took me some time to get used to the change in the lead vocals, but it all matured and now I can say I added the new album to my playlist and reviewed the album! On top of that: can't wait to see them on stage! And tonight’s the night!

Our ladies are all fired up, ready for a night of rock and roll meets hard Rock! The show is almost like a best off. The new album gets a warm welcome. We Can Feel it! Like they sang it out loud from the start! The stage is theirs (to paraphrase “The Road is Ours”). I’m happy They play Loud And Free & Bright Eyes. One of the highlights was the acoustic part where Filippa Nässil plays on an acoustic guitar, guiding their new singer Linnéa Vikström (also known from Therion and Kamelot). It’s a very sensitive and magical moment. A goosebumps moment for all the fans! It’s only towards the end that Majsan Lindberg (bass) and Joan Massing (drums) jump in. After that they all leave the stage, except Joan who takes over with a drum solo. Linnéa comes back with a new jacket and restarts the fire with Whatever and for sure with Shoot To Kill (another highlight). Don’t Believe A Word creates a strange moment when Linnéa leaves the stage and continue to sing whilst we don’t see her. It’s a very string momentum (she went via the bar to the back to check the crowd). With Try With Love they speed it all up a bit whilst the roof is on fire. They close their regular set with Thunderous (and yes the title of the song describes it in a perfect way).

The fans scream their lungs out for an encore and so we get a few extra songs, making us all hot and wet. It’s clear they Can’t Put Out The Fire (to namedrop the second song of the encores). They close their set in style with Driving in Style!

Well? I’m happy, had a good night in a great place! Loved it all, was just hoping to hear a bit more songs from Black and Gold
