Six years after the highly acclaimed 'Check My Spleen' and some fifty dates in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, FABIOLA is back on 9 October with an acid, flamboyant single, 'The Freak'. The track heralds the release of 'The Mushroom Type', a brand new record the band will present at Le Botanique in Brussels on 20 February 2025.

'The Mushroom Type' was born at a turbulent time for Fabrice Detry, the pop goldsmith who (barely) hides behind Fabiola. To exist, the album required a certain amount of letting go, coupled with a surge of madness and an irrepressible desire to break and rebuild.

In this first single, however, Fabrice doesn't talk about himself. This freak, this madman, is one of those indie pop heroes - Ariel Pink - who fell from grace following the march on the US Capitol by Donald Trump's fanatics, in which he took part.

Your crocodile tears
Now you're on Foxnews
Shitfit like you're the victim
My gosh I can't believe it
I just can't believe it

That's all it took for Fabrice long to write a labyrinthine pop reminiscent of the Beastie Boys, Why, Stereolab and Lewis Carroll. The train has never derailed, always caught at the edge of the void by sweet vocals and intertwining guitars and keyboards.
