Black Asteroid shares a rich, robust new single with vocals by Ian Astbury of The Cult – 'Dirge Out' is available everywhere now via Artoffact Records!  On teaming up with Astbury, Bryan Black (AKA Black Asteroid) candidly comments, “OMG I JUST WROTE A SONG WITH IAN ASTBURY / THE CULT IN A MASSIVE RECORDING STUDIO IN HOLLYWOOD. THIS IS THE ROCK AND ROLL FANTASY I ALWAYS WANTED.“

"Astbury and I agreed that it would be cool to collaborate and since I was already going to LA for a gig, I found a studio. I honestly didn't know if he would show up, or if some imposter was using his account. Ian showed up. I watched on the studio security cameras as a black SUV pulled up. Ian rolled in with a bag full of notebooks, art books, pens, and stories. We talked for hours. Somehow with only 20 minutes left in our session, he went to the booth and nailed the vocal in 1 take. This was the first time I recorded with a vocalist as they were writing the vocals in my presence," he continues.

The single marks the second release from the upcoming sophomore album, 'Infinite Darkness', which will see its global release on May 3rd, 2024 via Artoffact Records.

Always keeping a second album on the backburner in his mind, Black says it was Astbury who pushed him to get to it. "I was on the bullet train from Osaka to Tokyo when he texted me "you should call your record Infinite Darkness." How could I refuse?" Black comments.

The highly-anticipated and truly original crossover record goes where techno has never gone before. Guitars and vocals are featured prominently, alongside a wall of modular synths to create solid machine-driven grooves and atmospheres that coalesce with the live performances – a sound that is uniquely Black Asteroid. Produced over the span of five years, the album features incredible talent, including Ian Astbury of The CultACTORSLouisahhhMichele LamyFront Line AssemblyBlush Response, and Speedy J.

After a string of critically acclaimed EPs, Black Asteroid’s debut album, “Thrust”, was released in 2017, also consisting of many crossover singles, featuring vocals from Zola Jesus, Cold Cave and Michele Lamy. In 2023, came the release of 2 EPs – “Acid Flesh", and “New Flesh," showcasing a more experimental sound, utilizing vocals and guitars. In 2011 the debut Black Asteroid single, “Engine 1” introduced Black Asteroid to the world. A unique industrial techno sound that quickly took off, propelling Black to play at clubs such as Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Khidi in Tbilisi, Fabric and Fold in London and countless major festivals, including being a face of Amsterdam Dance Event. The focus was, and remains, in favor of song structures and vocals in a techno template.

Black started his music career as a sound designer and keyboard tech for Prince at Paisley Park Studios in his hometown of Minneapolis. While working for Prince, Black proceeded to create his own music under the names Haloblack and Motor. These records caught the ear of Martin Gore from Depeche Mode. Soon after, Black was on tour with Depeche Mode and recording songs with Martin Gore. Together Black and Gore wrote a top 40 single “Man Made Machine”.
