It doesn’t happen a lot but after receiving a friendship request from a Peruvian band featuring on this compilation) I decided to go for it. Mind you: I prefer you first tell me what you expect before sending a friendship request. It has been a while since I reviewed something from the Punk branch, so it came right on time!
Before we start: I don’t know (until very recently) any of these bands. If you are interested in one of these bands, just do like I did: explore the label’s roster as it contains a very good variety (in quality and in genre’s)!
The Panic Broadcast - Dress Like the Dead starts slowly and sounds soft and mellow. I even hear a very commercial sound. Despite the horror theme I can almost describe it as a Christmas song, however it’s really Halloween themed! Most of the song sounds like a ballad, btw. I like the global sound and am really amazed it ends up here!
Boogeyman - The Candle of Six Days sounds like a catchy punk/rock song with great vocals, a good synergy between the bandmates and a classic oh oh oh momentum. It’s the kind of song you will still remember when this sampler is played out! Keep on rocking folks!
Los Morts - La Mosca is the Peruvian band that got me reviewing this sampler. They sing in their own language and serve us punk horror from their country. The rambling guitars sound really good and I like the ending of the song!
Siblings Of Samhain - My Creature in the Night sounds really catchy, with a retro touch and vocals that definitively remind me of some big hit singers from the 80’s (TheProclaimers & co)! The backings render the sweet sound in a perfect way! I also love the high tempo.
Pretty With the Lights Out - We Belong Dead is short fused track with a great tempo, good vocals and a good band!
Won't Stay Dead - Somebody Put a Cross on My Head (And it Burned) is the first female fronted band on this compilation and really sounds well! Expect great power punk with clean and really good vocals! The song even has a catchy and sweet sound!
The Creepy Crawlers - The Power and the Fury (Of Rock and Roll) serve us classic punk horror of a good level (with nice female backings). The chorus is made for screaming all along! This song screams for a clip!
Tomb of Nick Cage - Ginger Snaps (ft. Johnny Hopeless) is a typical old school 80’s punk song with a catchy feel, the perfect chorus and lot’s of backings (almost demanding you sing along)! I clearly feel the potential of this song!
The Deathtones - Friday the 13th reminds me from the start about Type O Negative (just listen to the guitar sound and the vocals). The lyrics are pretty cool!
Robby Bloodshed - Dripping Red starts in a poppy way until the dystopic drums destroy the sweet sound! I can hear the singer must be a great performer as I can feel his energy! His vocal range is really incredible! There is even a jazzy part in this song!
The Jumpscares – Archangel sounds like an old school punk band that just delivered a demo or at least a track that has been recorded in one go to keep it fresh and real!
Wake the Dead – 1893 sounds like a raw punk song with a catchy chorus (backed by powerful backings).
84 Tapes - I Sold My Soul sounds raw like recorded in one take: a plug in and record! You can feel the energy and the influences of the early Stooges!
Voice of Doom - The Violent Few is the last one and is a real punk track in the likes of 1979! It’s yet another raw, energetic and pure song with a chorus that wants you to scream along! Raise your fist and let yourself go! Short and strong: like all good punk tracks!
Well If you ever want to have a Halloween party mixed with theme made tracks this is the perfect sampler for it! I’m sure you will be able to find more gems if you explore the other tracks from the bands you loved on this compilation! I had fun reviewing it and discovered some nice bands: so mission accomplished!
