Jacksonville, Florida’s Ascendence have released their latest track, “The Monstar” (feat. CJ McCreery), a message to all who oppose them and a venomous jab to the naysayers. The lyrics showcase a direct, yet sarcastic response from lead vocalist Jordan Killcore, addressing his reputation and being deemed “The Monster.” The track reveals his acceptance of the title, with no signs of the criticism slowing his drive or creative will.

“The Monstar” is a unique fusion of metalcore, rap, nu-metal, and pop. Electronically-charged riffs with trap-influenced beats, and a classic 2000s style range of vocals, from melodic to pure guttural fury.

“‘The title of the song ‘The Monstar’ (a reference to the opposing team in the film Space Jam), is taken in large part from a nickname of lead vocalist Jordan Killcore, “the Monster.” Originally used in a derogatory fashion by naysayers, Killcore (and subsequently fans of the group) adopted the nickname in a sarcastic yet empowering manner.”
The music video for “The Monstar” finds Killcore and the rest of Ascendence imprisoned in a holding cell, a blatant representation of how those can become a sort of prisoner in their own lives. The scenes flash next to find Killcore in a dimly lit interrogation room going head to head with an interviewer shrouded in darkness, the band states this is, “symbolic of the heckling and harassment present on social media in Killcore's everyday life.”

As the tension builds and the band thrashes in the cover of darkness, the coup de grace is delivered by a minute-long feature from CJ McCreery of Immortal Disfigurement (ex. Signs of the Swarm, Lorna Shore) and his unmistakable vocal styling. The video fades to black, then suddenly returns with a hidden scene and an “easter egg” of sorts for fans left wanting more.

“The Monstar” video was directed by Jordan Killcore and Jay Azoth. The song was written by Jordan Killcore, Eric Jameson, and CJ McCreery.
