Less than two years after their last album, legendary Mexican Electro duo Hocico is once again filling the air with their special sound and strikes hard with their full range of aggression on the band's brand new album. Latently menacing and rather insidiously rough as in "Broken Empires" or wrapped in a pulsating Dark'n'Bass tune as in the recently released single "Backstabbers" - Hocico doesn't play shy on any of the 13 tracks of their new long-player.
This also counts for the previously released bonus track “Weapons of Resistance " with the guest vocals from ten56. Frontman Aaron Matts! After previous collaborations from Hocico with Lord Of The Lost and Ost+Front, this is another straight banger, that will not only make the Aggrotech heart beat faster. In 2022, heavy-hitter Hocico is still going strong in pushing boundaries and breaking old conventions - or simply said: "hyper hyper"!
When The Trumpets Of Hate Blow is a strong intro with a spoken word and a scary sound. Broken Empires has been launched as a single and is worth it! I like the tempo and the aggressive feel. Acts of Aggression is what we see on TV every day: war, gunshots, stabbings with knives … It looks like it will never stop and with this pumped up adrenaline shot we get reminded about it! It’s a hot track with a modern sound! Time for a song in their native language: Un Sepulcro Sin Cadaver but hey except for the title: there is nothing to read and thus now words. It’s just a musical intermezzo. What Are Nightmares Made Of? Is not really a harsh track: ok you hear some screaming but the song has the tempo of a marching song whilst I expected somehow something that would blow my head off when I read the title of this song. Hacked Society has a modern sound with a heavy bass but the tempo is a bit too slow to make it really hot. El Jardin de Las Locuras is another intermezzo, just skipp it. Some serious dubstep comes with the screaming hot track called: Backstabbers. Lost World has a higher tempo and sounds more aggressive & more powered up! Black Reflection is another filler: just slow music with a dark attitude and no vocals. N.W.O. takes in some guitars and really sounds great! It’s a song with some strong blows and great drumming! Crown of Knives sounds so heavy, so into heavy metal & gothic that it’s hard to knowledge that this is actually a Hocico song! Same goes for the vocals! It’s for sure a mind blowing song! It’s also the longest song on the album! Peccata Mundi is an instrumental and closes the regular album. The sound of this song is not bad, but instrumentals are simply not my thing.
HYPERSIDE EFFECTS (Bonus CD in the Deluxe 2 CD Edition). From this one I also received the single that was taken from this bonus CD.
Weapons of Resistance feat. Aaron Matts: mixing dubstep with harsh beats and vocals that sound monstruous! Sometimes I even hear some rap! It’s a pretty unconventional song and that is always cool to hear!
