De Duitse rock- en metalband Avantasia brengt vandaag de eerste single en video 'Creepshow' uit van het nieuwe (tiende) studioalbum 'Here Be Dragons', dat op vrijdag 28 februari 2025 op Napalm Records verschijnt (Avantasia's eerste album bij dit Oostenrijkse platenlabel). 'Creepshow' is volgens de band een van zijn meest pakkende nummers tot nu toe, en luidt een nieuw tijdperk voor de Duitsers in. Het nummer zal een integraal onderdeel worden van de spectaculaire liveshows.
De band laat weten dat 'Here Be Dragons' alle kenmerkende "essentials" bevat zoals betoverende koren, theatrale symfonische metal-elementen, en tal van intrigerende frisse soundscapes. Volgens meesterbrein en frontman Tobias Sammet (tevens zanger bij de Duitse powermetal band Edguy) zal het nieuwe album - het meest consistente en bondige tot nu toe - zowel nieuwe als oude fans verrassen omdat het een opwindende en krachtige wending geeft aan de zo kenmerkende sound die Avantasia in een kwart eeuw zorgvuldig heeft gecreëerd.

Tobias Sammet: "'Creepshow' is a perfect single. It’s short and catchy, and it emphasizes a facet of my work that has taken a backseat in my music in recent years. It’s light-hearted and the opposite of melancholic. And it's fresh, boisterous and unabashed - a straightforward kick-ass anthem. Also, even though it may seem like a reminiscence of my earlier writing, I think we managed to turn the whole thing into a trademark Avantasia tune, as we accentuated with the music video. We rented a haunted castle in North England and celebrated a night in the world of spectres and undead creatures. This is the most vibrant and eccentric music video I’ve ever shot in my entire career: not dead-serious, but certainly of serious quality! I can’t wait to play 'Creepshow' live on our tour next year, I can already see the whole venue jumping up and down and screaming along."
Avantasia's indrukwekkende succesverhaal bevat negen eerdere studioalbums (inclusief 'Moonglow' uit 2019 dat in Duitsland op #1 van de album chart stond); gouden awards; honderden miljoenen streams; headline shows op alle belangrijke metal festivals; en wereldwijd uitverkochte arena tours met tienduizenden toegewijde fans. 'HERE BE DRAGONS'
'Here Be Dragons' is rijk aan levendige verhalen en filmische sferen. Openingsnummer 'Creepshow' is zonder twijfel een van de meest pakkende nummers in Avantasia's carrière. Deze energieke hit-in-spe is een integraal onderdeel van de spectaculaire liveshows van de band. Daarentegen is titelnummer 'Here Be Dragons' juist een klassiek Avantasia-nummer, en met bijna negen minuten veruit het langste op het album. De filmische donkere soundscapes van 'The Witch' boeien en ondersteunen de verhaallijn van het nummer perfect. Emotionele, veelzijdige vocale uitvoeringen betoveren op 'Avalon', terwijl het heavy metal-nummer 'Against The Wind' dient als verder bewijs van de veelzijdigheid van de band. 'Here Be Dragons' laat een uitgebalanceerd en samenhangend geluid horen, en is onmiskenbaar het krachtigste album van de Duitsers tot nu toe.
Alle tien albumtracks werden geheel geschreven en gecomponeerd door Tobias Sammet zelf; geproduceerd en opgenomen door Tobias Sammet samen met Sascha Paeth; gemixt door Sascha Paeth; en gemasterd door Michael Rodenberg. Het verbluffende artwork werd wederom gemaakt door de bejubelde Britse fantasy artist Rodney Matthews.
