Skinsitive – Somebodies

Skinsitive is a French female fronted rock/metal band with influences From PJ Harvey and Nine Inch Nails. The lyrics jump from English to French (can’t hide the French tongue, honestly). Drama and melancholia are good fuel for this rocker!

It all starts with the 27th Turn, a soft and sweet rocker that makes me dream and think of the past. The piano is great, just as the mixing of all the different instruments. The song gets slowly build up and explodes towards to end giving a great outburst of energy: ending with a beautiful fade out! It’s the kind of song that drags you into their game and keeps you in! I adore it!

All is for the Best has a bluesy sound with theatrical elements or should I say: cabaret? Halfway the monster awakes and starts to scream and spit out some rock’n roll! More beats and more agressivity comes in with a punk attitude when Long Teeth, small tricks. It feels a bit like the female version of Marilyn Manson versus Hole and I love it! Towards the end we get total chaos: raw and brutal! Teen(r)agers sounds like a great title for a great track and yes they confirm the expectations! It’s raw and brutal in the way that I really love it! I would love to see it on stage!

They is a punk’n roll screamer with a fat bass. In the end it sounds pretty catchy with nice hooks! I also like the bluesy part, just like the piano. Afraid of Ghosts is softer in the start and sounds a bit as if performed by a stadium rock band, with lots of pathos! The Tempest is a nice interlude: I can hear the birds,  sounds from the woods and a harp/piano. The only thing that disturbs it towards the end are the drums and the  sound of an upcoming storm. Morse awakens you from that soft dream: it’s a screamer and a catchy one mixing French and English. The sound is very hypnotic, catchy and melancholic! I feel it will be a great track to perform on stage, giving it all and closing the set with that last energetic outburst! It’s just perfect!

Another pearl comes with the dramatic feel of Black Sand. The sound is pretty catchy and I adore the piano and the breaks! It feels like a pretty fragile one! Somebody is an acoustic track with lots of small details, until it explodes and rocks your socks off! The twist within this song are numerous, making it a pretty special one: from soft to hard, back and forth. One thing is for sure: the vocals are great and can do any style! Somebodies is a screaming mix between French and English, between rock, piano and punk with a wall of sound that would please Neil Young! The anger even sounds catchy and drags you deeper into the shithole of the lyrics. I can only stay humble and salute the creativity within this song. It also feels like the French version of Nick Cave! Nuances is the second interlude, this time more melodic and with more instruments: slowly building up the tension. A real piano closes the track giving it something spiritual. June is the last track contains some Faith and The Muse influences. Sound wise it comes close to a mythic mantra with Indian influences, mixing French and English. It’s very hard not to start moving along with the rhythm, it’s like getting sucked into a downwards spiral!

I absolutely adored it and want to thank Doweet Records for sending this directly to me! I hope to see them, one day …
