You Me At Six - Night People

The boys from Surry are back and ready to rock. Their previous album (Cavalier Youth) was their first #1 UK album hit, so you wouldn’t expect them to change the winning formula? Do you? Well guess again! Recorded at Blackbird studios in Nashville Tennessee they try to sound a bit heavier but also groovier. As opening tracks go, the title track is tough to beat. Three whole minutes of bluesy, stomping rock ‘n’ roll singing from our good friend Josh. And it all sounds so natural. Rather, ‘Night People’ is the sound of You Me At Six waving goodbye to their old sound, and looking to an even brighter future

.Though a couple of these songs could have been on Cavalier Youth there’s a more mature feel to the entire album. For example the song Heavy Soul. With its laid-back, minimal riffs and chorus, it’s easier to imagine that song blasting out on a road trip with friends than at a loud and drunk club at night. (Producer Jacquire King is best known for his work with Kings Of Leon, so perhaps it’s no coincidence this album sounds a bit like them).

If you’re worried and consider growing up as boring… Just hold your horses! This is not how the album sounds at all. It just feels all natural and it works perfectly.
The lyrics sound really intimate from time to time

If your past calls, don’t you pick it up /

It’s got nothing new to say,”

“My darkest days have come and pulled me under /

I want my moment in the sun,”

Not as cliché is they sometimes used to be. Maybe this album doesn’t really sound like You Me At Six. But it’s the perfect album that they wanted/needed to make. This could be their step-up to go big in mainland Europe. In my humble opinion it surely has the potential!

So stop reading and start listening.
